I know I often say, "What does literature do?" Is it purposeful? Can we live without it? Sure. So, why do we have it...hmmm...
There are many answers to that question. I think that Literature teaches....even when being read for fun.
So, if there is one teachable moment you want to take away from
Feed, what is it? Did this book teach you anything? Will it prompt you to change something about your life?
There isn't much that I would change about Feed if I could change anything. It does a great job of teaching us things that we never would have thought about before and does a great job of making us really think about things that we wouldn't have originally thought about. Feed won't drastically change the way I think about things or how I live or any of that, but it will make me think more in-depth about things that I wouldn't normally think critically about. All in all, nothing in my life will change other than thinking deeper about certain things than I normally do. The book can't make me change anything too major because I can't live in fear of the Feed taking over or something similar to that happening. I'm all about the "in the moment" type of swing.
ReplyDeleteJennifer, I'm pretty confident that you have mistaken the word teachable for the word changeable. That being said, I'm glad there is nothing that you would change in this book and the book has helped teach you to take a more in depth look and suspicious situations.
DeleteFEED has taught me to limit social media because the times Titus is most happy is when he is actually doing things and part taking in life not on the feed.
ReplyDeleteHonestly its more the idea of someone prowling around in my head that scares me. Plus social media will not harm you if you only use it in moderation just like anything if you do something to often it will cause some harmful effects down the road.
DeleteThat's true. People use things like that way too often and they aren't able to see themselves living without it because of it. They think that if they have to go without, they'll die.
DeleteWell as for what I learned is that their is more then one kind of dystopia since you can control people in more ways then one. As for what I will change nothing really honestly I am very cheap so I buy as little as possible and when I do its only after carefully weighing my choices on what to buy. Plus I would hate to listen to other peoples thoughts all day everyday of my life I mean would YOU want to listen to every single persons thoughts you come across?
ReplyDeleteI'm the same way! I don't think I could handle all the adds in my head every time I thought about buying something because it takes me awhile to decided exactly what I should get anyways.
DeleteI know I would not be able to do the whole feed thing because I get frustrated if to many people or things are trying to talk to me now let alone just being able to pop up when ever. I totally agree with both of you.
DeleteFeed has taught me that things do not last for forever and the time you have with those things are important. The world is full of changes. Honestly, if I had to live in the time that Feed was set in, I could not do it at all. I need the outdoors and to be able to talk on my own. Reading the book made me think that the things we have today would not exist in this time period, and that scares me. I love to spend time with my animals outdoors and to be able to talk and yell without something to advertise or communicate for me. Feed was an eye opener and made me think about the world in a different way.
ReplyDeleteI would have to agree. I need to being things outdoors especially when it's nice out and need to be engaging in conversation.
DeleteThe book Feed taught me a lot. Little things matter, love deeply, don't let artificial things take the place of the real thing. I probably won't change much about my life because I'm kind of old fashioned as it is lol shit I just got my first smartphone ever a month ago!
ReplyDeleteI still don't have a smartphone, and I don't see myself getting one in the anywhere in the near future. As long as the phone I have has a full key board I'm good lol.
DeleteTouché lol
Deletei agree it's the little things that matter the most, and i have never had a smart phone. as long as my flip phone works i'm fine with just using that phone.i'm also selling my i pod touch.
DeleteFeed taught me treasure the time I have with loved ones because one day something could go wrong and not be able to be fixed. Spend as much time with that loved one on a face to face bases as much as possible because that is the most important way to remember not by some emails or phone conversations. Those all fade or get lost when that item dies. Whereas time spent with that person can never die until you are dead yourself.
ReplyDeleteWell to be honest the book did not really teach me much, but it did however reinforce things that I already knew. Like how important it is to not let technology take over your life, or to never stop spending time with my friends and loved ones. We only get one life and I would much rather spend it with friends and family than on mundane things like freakin Facebook.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you for the most part. The book just reinforced things
DeleteI didn't learn a whole lot I guess but I mainly just enjoy the little things. They don't have anything they can just go do unless its party. I'll enjoy things like having my own uninterrupted thoughts.
ReplyDeleteFeed taught me that people need to treasure the moments they have with people because they could go anytime. People need to socialize instead of being on technology and media networking sites.
ReplyDeleteI feel that the most important concept to take away from the book Feed is to not have tunnel vision in life (figuratively of course. If you were born with tunnel vision that's not you fault). So often in life when there is something that isn't good we make a point to not focus on it and feel that if we pay it no attention then everything will be alright. Feed sends the message that ignoring problems will do nothing but make those problems worse which is a message that I strongly agree with.
ReplyDeleteyes this book has definiatly made me think twice about using social media, and other things that are mostly technology related. although the book has definiatly made me think about what fucher generations will be like to. I wonder what the world will be like when our grand kids are growing up.
