Out of all the poets you heard today, who was your favorite and why?
Why do you think this person is considered a classic poet?
I'm a fan of Emily Dickinson, although that may be surprising since I hate rhymey poetry. However, there is something about her, most especially I heard a fly buzz when I died
that i really like.
Interesting fact. Dickinson wrote all of her poems on books she had made herself, with terrible handwriting, and then sewed these books up. They weren't published until after her death (for the most part).
Sandburg I would say something about this poet whos unable to pass a grammer test intrigues me. Plus I would like to see this super deep philosophical hobo instead of shouting curses towards you be shouting poems... I have an active imagination to say the least.

DeleteI really enjoyed Levi's presentation on Billy Collins. He really did remind me of Dr. Seuss only he made more sense. I am not sure why he would be considered a classic poet though. If anyone could shed some thought on this for me it would be appreciated.

DeleteI really enjoyed Sandburg, I think he is an interesting guy and I enjoy that he was a hobo. I think him living as a hobo makes himself more personable to me rather then the poet who tries to show how deep their sole is.

ReplyDeleteEdgar Allen Poe is a great example of a classic poet because he had such a variety of poems that really had different meanings and affected lots of people.
DeleteI really enjoyed Billy Collins' writings. They put an interesting twist on everyday life and I really like the fact that the subjects of his writing are very easy to understand, and yet you can still tell that Collins is taking an extremely intelligent perspective on the subjects that he writes about. I think that he is considered a classic poet simply because he is consistently writing so many good pieces of literature.
ReplyDeleteWilliam Blake was fun to learn about. He was considered a classic poet because he wrote about what was happening around him and everyone could relate to that. I respected his poem about the poverty level and how kids were raising themselves on the streets with no guide lines or role models, this really inspired me.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is Elizabeth Bishop even though i told you i hated her when i talked you. After i presented her in class and truly understood her poem i realized that i liked that she wrote about and how her poems symbolized things.
