Cutting

If there is a character, or characters, that you could cut out of MacBeth...who would it, they, be? Why? How would this affect the play?

  1. Honestly just get rid of the witches you can replace them with letters from Lady Macbeth saying claim power its yours! There the idea is planted without adding any witches to the equation.

    1. Also guess what it makes more sense to! Why would Macbeth care about some creepy lady's whispering in the bushes. I mean you ever been to the city? You have some crazy guy screaming that the world's gonna end tommorow are you gonna take that guys advice? Hell no your gonna say get away from me weirdo.

    2. I agree with you Garrett. I also really like your idea for the way that you would rewrite the story that you shared in class the other day. Really a fantastic concept.

  2. The witches can definitely go and the story will still be just as powerful especially in today's culture. As far as other characters, I feel that some of the minor characters could be cut or at least edited, but that would all depend on how the individual rewriting the play wanted the story to be told and what portions he/she wanted to emphasis.

    1. I totally agree with some of the smaller roles like the guy who opens the gate I think his whole speech could be cut and the play would still move along just fine.

  3. I honestly like the play as it is but the witches would make the most sense because they just stand out. If you were to cut them out then there would have to be another person or object to start the whole story. The witches can go but it would change the story a little if you did not replace them.

    1. I agree with you, The witches should go but you cannot just take them out but replace them with something that seems to go along more with the story,.

  4. I agree with you Rachelle. The people who implant the idea to Macbeth don't need to be witches, but there is definitely a need for someone to implant the idea just to get the story started.

    1. I think that maybe instead of using the witches or another character to implant the idea in Macbeth's mind maybe it is something that he already subconsciously believes will happen.

  5. Maybe having Lady Macbeth die earlier and turning the witches into Lady Macbeth's friends would be better. The friends would try to convince Macbeth that killing the king is what she would have wanted for him. This way he is still going to have power but have the same ideas considering he is doing this for his wife but then looses it because he no longer has her.

  6. I'd get rid of the witches simply because they're annoying bitches that need to get a real life. :)

  7. Honestly, I would probably get rid of the witches and lady Macbeth. Because any man in a low place in life with the top spot in reach would do anything to get there, they don't need influenced by anyone else to see the path that lies before them. I guess that is a big part of the story though, a weak minded man being manipulated by women. Maybe I would just take out the witches so it would be a little more of a realistic story. Women manipulating men has been present since Adam and Eve. There's no fiction in that.

  8. I would take out the witches. I do not feel that they are necessary to the story. I would probably take some of their dialogue and use it in a dream sequence for Macbeth.

  9. I wouldn't cut out the witches but I would simply remove some scenes of theirs. I think the scene when it is just them isn't necessary but someone needs to tell MacBeth his future.

  10. I think that you they should cut the witches as well. They don't add a lot to the story. I think they should have made lady Macbeth the sole reason for Macbeths power grab
