Did you know that some scholars argue that Shakespeare never existed? There are many theories about this idea. Some suggest that he was just a name, and the players at the theater wrote the shows. Others have suggested that Queen Elizabeth wrote many of the plays herself, and that is why the shows seem to differ greatly in voice after she died. Others claim that Sir Walter Raleigh wrote the plays, and used Shakespeare as a cover. Seriously - there are ALL KINDS of claims. For some reason many people find it hard to believe that a common man...one with very little education, wrote some of the world's most treasured, and perhaps well-known, pieces of work.
For this blog, do a quick google search for Shakespeare and conspiracies. What do you think? Do you think there is any truth to the matter?
I think that Shakespeare did write his plays and that people just do not want to believe a common man could write such great works when there are other people in the world with a better education and background that cannot write a bestseller. I think conspiracies are just another way for people to spread gossip and believes without people being to critical of it.
ReplyDeletei agree. it is hard to believe.
DeleteI think you made a good point, Shakespeare might not have been a ideal man at the time to write plays, but we even see that now, common people out of the blue writing amazing books, some from their dreams!
DeleteI think Shakespeare wrote his own plays. I think people like to make conspiracies cause they can, and it is fun to believe connections that seem so far fetched but have a reasonable doubt. If I did have to pick a conspiracy to be true I would assume the actors wrote it to protect themselves from punishment from the crown.

Deleteit is hard to believe.
DeletePretty much who does not like a good conspiracy theory? I mean we all love the idea of mysterious things happening behind the curtain and apparently even the idea of some mysterious author intrigue some people.
DeleteI like your thought Drew about the actors writing it. I also like your thought about how we like conspiracies because they are so far fetched but have that reasonable doubt.
ReplyDeleteI think that Shakespeare wrote these plays. if shakespeare never existed then neither does steven speilberg.
ReplyDeleteHonestly I think Shakespeare probably made all his stuff but more then likely he probably stole some ideas here and there maybe from a traveler or a fellow writer but more then likely he probably wrote his own stuff and as for why the way he writes seems to change maybe he was a schizophrenic weirdo with multiple personalities writing the stories makes more sense then the people who think Shakespeare killed people and took there stories.
ReplyDeleteIt is definitely possible that Shakespeare got some of the ideas for his writings from sources other than what was simply in his head, but I do also believe that Shakespeare did do all of his own writing.
DeleteI think Shakespeare had help writing these plays. Because it does not make sense that he knows so much about royalty traditions and other countries he had never visited. I think there was a group that was lead by Shakespeare that wrote all the plays. This would explain how the voice of the plays change after certain leaders take over ruling. More than one idea would be able to bring the plays different feelings.
ReplyDeleteI really don't believe any of these theories to have any creditability to them. It's like what you said in the opening statement: people just struggle to believe that Shakespeare could of written so well so they try to prove that he didn't write these great pieces. I also struggle to believe any of the theories because I don't see any reason it would of benefited people at the time.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on this. People will do and say anything to avoid the truth behind others' greatness and accomplishments.
DeleteI believe that Shakespeare did all of his work. Just because someone isn't as gifted in areas as much as other people doesn't mean they don't have great talents underneath.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree! I mean look at Einstein! He sucked ass at literature and if he would have dropped out after failing at that we would have never known he was a genius in functions of the universe and mathematics!
DeleteI believe anything is possible. Especially in the time of Shakespeare. Anyone back then could do anything or say anything and as long as it sounds good enough, it will go down in history. It could have easily been an illiterate person who only had the power of speech and imagination. It also could easily have been a scholar or major political figure that was well educated. But if I was to guess, they all looked down upon literature and writing and it was inexplicably forbidden, with that being said I'm sure anyone in a good political standing back then probably had parents or grandparents in good political standing. So, that said person would have been kept away from literature and taught that it was forbidden at a very young age. I think it really was Shakespeare and he just had someone write the plays for him because he didn't have much experience in writing or literature. But what he did have was much more valuable. He had a beautiful mind with loads of imagination and he knew the common people as well as the higher-ups. A person with this kind of resources could do or create anything and it would be a masterpiece.
ReplyDeleteUntil this class I had never heard that he did not exist. I do think he existed but I think that the best explanation is that he was used as a cover. I think it would make more sense that someone with royalty was writing these because Shakespeare plays practically created the dictionary so for a common person like Shakespeare to make these words seems ridicules.
ReplyDeleteWell now that I know about these poets that were hobos and didn't do good in school it really seems more plausible that it could have just actually been Shakespeare. It's really more about people's imagination and way of thinking about things then education when it comes to writing. I think.
ReplyDeleteI don't want to think it so i will say NO, that i do believe that Shakespeare was the truly the one who wrote his plays. I will say though that some of the ideas and conspiracies are pretty convincing and make some valid points.
