On monday you will get a chance to read my favorite story - and you will be critically thinking about and analyzing this story. (I can't wait because it's a good one).
What has been your favorite short story we have read so far during our super short unit? Do you have one that stands out to you the most? If so, why? Was their symbolism in your story? Did that make a difference for you?
I guess the yellow room it just kind of strikes me as weird that makes it unique to me.As for the symbolism I guess that all she wanted was her freedom and when she finally had it and was able to go outside all she wanted to do was stay inside and creep. So no real impact for me their was just part of the story.
ReplyDeleteAgain no one here so i just needed to respond so yeah.
DeleteYeah I agree with that story being weird as fuck lol
DeleteI had read this story in middle school for class and Ben back then I found it too weird to get into and understand.
DeleteI think the story of an hour probably stuck out the most to me, it had a lot of meaning to it, and I like things with deeper meanings where you actually have to think and get a little creative to figure out what's really going on in the story.
ReplyDeleteI liked story of an hour too because it was fun to see her reaction change and you had to figure out what had happened previously in the relationship that filled this women with joy after hearing her husband is dead.
DeleteMy favorite story would have to be The Yellow Wall Paper, it stuck out to me how crazy she was. When i was reading it i was with my roommates and some friends and most of them had to read for a class as well, and it was actually interesting talking about it and how it freaked us out!
ReplyDeleteI liked that she was so crazy. I thought it made the story more interesting to read.
DeleteI liked the Story Of An Hour. It had a deep meaning and I enjoyed having to try and figure out what was going on throughout the story.
ReplyDeleteIt was definitely a good story for as short as it was. It really led to a lot of good class discussion which made it even more enjoyable to analyze.
DeleteI didn't really like any of these stories but the one that stuck out to me the most would be Story of an Hour because it has so many underlying meanings and it made me really think about why the things that were going on were really going on. It opened my eyes to what happened.
ReplyDeleteI liked the The Yellow Wallpaper. I have a slightly off color sense of humor, so I found it kinda funny. Especially the way she was creeping around the room. Even though it made me feel sad for her as well.
ReplyDeleteI am very interested in creepy things, i like watching the murder stories late on Sunday nights with my mom ( Weird i know) but i was very interested in this story even though i thought it was hard to understand at times.
DeleteI really enjoyed The Yellow Wallpaper. I don't usually enjoy stories that are on the weird side of things, but I am very intrigued by psychology and the mental illness in this story was very interesting for me. The author also did a good job with the setting and describing the main character's actions so we could get a really good idea of how unhealthy the situation was.
ReplyDeleteI also thought that this was a very good story. it was very weird though, and obviously the wife had a few mental problems.
DeleteI agree. This story really had me interested.
DeleteI agree with you Levi I really enjoyed it because it shows how far we have come with our understanding of mental illness from just having them be alone with no interaction to having the mental ill out in public interacting with people thanks to the drug companies and scientist.
DeleteI think that my favorite short story that we have read so far is "A Rose For Emily". I think that Emily symbolizes the lies that we would rather believe, and the dead guy in her bed symbolizes the truth. the fact that there was symbolism in the story defiantly made it more interesting to me.
ReplyDeleteNone of the stories stuck out to me too much. The one that interested me the most would probably be The Yellow Wallpaper. It was kind of a mystery to me and just really intrigued me.
ReplyDeleteI would have to say The Yellow Wallpaper most caught my attention because of the fact that she was sick and the wallpaper was yellow symobolizing the sickness. I also found it interesting because that is what would happen back when this story was written to anybody that had any mental health issues. Most never did get better they just got worse and worse until they either died or killed themselves she just became creepy.
ReplyDeleteStory of an hour was my favorite short story. This is because the reader had to figure out what was really going on in the story and had to put themselves in this women's shoes in order to understand why she was filled with joy after hearing such sad news. Then having to relate back and decide for yourself how and when she died at the end of the story. Its fun to have your own thoughts on what happens in a story.
